The client

The Catalan Water Agency (Agència Catalana de l’Aigua-ACA) is an agency attached to the Department of Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat de Catalunya and is the public company in charge of planning and managing the integrated water cycle in Catalonia.

The ACA had the need to evolve its technological architecture, due to the obsolescence of some of its components and the new challenges as Public Administration.

For this he asked IN2, as specialized consultants Open Source, the support for technology decision making.

In this consulting project the new technological architecture was defined which included:

  • Generation of the functional and technical models of the new architecture in the short, medium and long term: set of components, services and procedures. Use of standards.
  • Definition of short-term software components: portal and content manager, BPM product, application server and interoperability product (ESB).
  • Definition of the main characteristics of the development environment.
  • Incorporation of market technological trends, taking into account the initiatives of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

After the initial consultancy, a catalog of products was presented and defined that included a portal & ECM, a BPM, among others.

This catalog of products was included in a model architecture consensual for the ACA and detailed and documented the development environment associated with it.

Within the consultancy, joint action plans were also defined to implement the conclusions of the same.
